Cambridge Champagne Fringe July 25
This event was organised by Baldock Folk Club and took place at Letchworth Rugby Club. The atmosphere was brilliant. We played 2 of our sets which were interspersed with fiddles, whistles, guitars and all sorts of folksy singing and music. The champagne was pretty good too!

Wintringham Pipers have played with numerous bands in the UK and in Germany, France, Sweden, Bavaria  and Spain. It is fantastic to be part of an international piping fraternity and this has allowed us to expand our piping experience. This year we plan to play in the Netherlands with the 48th Highlanders of Holland Pipes and Drums and in France with the Somme Battlefield band .

Last year we played at a memorial service at Lochnagar Crater which is now a war memorial. The crater  was blown up by the British & Allied  tunnelling companies on the first day of the battle of the Somme on 1 July 1916. It was the bloodiest day in British military history with 19,240 British soldiers losing their lives.

It was an incredibly moving service which was attended by people of many nationalities. It was especially poignant for our Piper Sarah, as her great great uncle Robert died there on that day at the age of 22. She was able to place a plaque for him on the crater
